So today was unexpectedly productive.

Mum apparently decided to buy me winter things. So I now have red velour trousers suitable for looking like Santa - no I don't know, but they're 18 short, and I was looking for a red coat, so she was kind of listening.

Also she bought me a jacket. It isn't even knee length, it buttons up the middle but leaves a v down from the neck, the pockets are on the front not where you can keep your hands in them, and it is dark blue. So, basically, not what I was looking for on almost every point. But it doesn't have a hood, and I didn't want the coat with a hood mum made me try on because it sounded wrong. Hoods change the sound. It's a thing. So, mum bought one with no hood. Also the fabric is promising in thickness and smoothness. I could live with the textures. And it's big enough to button up even after I got my winter layers on.

Mum has decided it is mine. No arguments.

Okay.

So, I pointed out the thing where I would go crunch and die, and that thing is one why I've been looking for a bright coat instead.

So mum agreed to attach shiny things. So the coat will be shiny.

I just finished ordering from cyberglow. There will be inch wide hi vis reflective blue tape around the edges of my new coat. Also I ordered the iron on little stars in strips. Mum says iron ons never stay on and never come off properly either. I say, stars! Shiny! So I ordered them and we can argue later.

There was quite a bit of argue about the shiny tape for the coat. Not a mean loud argue like the last one, just an argue. Mum reckons I should make my backpack and bag and handbag shiny and not put shiny on the coat because it is a good coat. I say I might not be carrying my bags and it is not a good coat if it isn't shiny and also my bag will only be shiny from a particular angle and I wish to make the coat shiny from all angles. So shiny has been ordered and mum will sew it on.

So the coat will be customised. And then I will not go crunch.

And it will still be almost entirely not what I was looking for, only with some shiny bits on that cost more than the other coat.

*shrugs*


Coats can cost £300. And still be a bit rubbish. This coat mum bought and is taking for dry cleanering so it'll only cost me some shiny bits.

So call that a win.


Mum was also going to buy me wellington boots with skulls on but they were sold out of boots in my size.


I don't know why she particularly felt the need today, but, okay.

Is nice.

my mum phoned to check I was all prepared for the snow.
I like it that she cares, but it is less fun when that caring is expressed as a ten minute nag.
ANYway, I have food, and drink, and more food, and more drink, so that's okay.

I have an essay to do and I've done some reading and I think I can do essay. So that's good.

And I have an extension so I have extra weeks to do essay in. So that's great.

I found some fic I wrote on the Wayback machine :-)
... I couldn't find it anywhere else. Logic says it should be in a file *somewhere* on my computer, because logic says I wrote it on my computer and never delete anything. But apparently no. I have poked and prodded and searched and no, my highlander fic is only mostly here.
There were stories I wrote straight into email to a mailing list that appears to no longer exist to be archived on a page that no longer works.

But Wayback found them for me.

... and then I get to look at what I was writing ten years ago.
*squirmy*

... everybody gets all embarrassed at their old stuff, right?
... oh dear.

so now I've found it I have a dilemma: do I want to post it somewhere more findable and admit it's mine and everything?
Or shall I just hide until I stop feeling the horrible dread that maybe I never got any better?

It's kind of wearying reading crazy person point of view.
also the more I read the less idea I have how to write about it.
at this point I'm thinking I'm just going to pull a couple paragraphs and ignore everything else.

I need the ability to aim my concentration.
I concentrate real well. I can read up on my fandoms for days and days and days. I can play Plants vs Zombies continuously for 24 hours without noticing. See? Concentration.
But can I aim it somewhere useful?
Can I heck.

If you see me on the internet today, please to be asking, 'have you finished your essay yet'?

The answer will be 'no' but I really need to change it very soon now.

Yesterday I went to sleep with my back hurting in the vague hopes it would wear off. Instead the lower back pain is joined by shoulder pain. Joy.

Then the fire alarm box in the hall started going eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Someone just now fixed it with percussive maintenance.
... they might have pressed the right buttons, but there was definitely thumping involved.

My confidence in our alarm system would be low except we've had some recent experience of how it performs. So that's nice.

Someone left a comment saying they'd thought I was really fat. I don't know why they felt the need to say that. Especially since I'm invisible on this here computer.

That worked.

I wrote the first version of this while I was still crying, and it was a bit flaily and wah and not big on the making sense, so I try again.

And it's kind of embarrassing because I can see how the plot is about as shaky as usual and RTD is being manipulative and all, but still, it worked.

I started my year as I meant to go on, with reading a bunch of big thinking for class.

... as far as I can tell it was composed by an infinite number of monkeys. Some sentences appear to make sense, and the quoted passages are very pretty, but what the one has to do with the other is never made clear. Sometimes the writer throws it all in a blender and takes three or four words from several sentences on different pages in different chapters of the book and quotes them in a row as if this proves something. I don't know why they bothered.

On the plus side, if the teacher is impressed with this, it's entirely possibly I can pass using the power of sheer bullshit.



I just have to write this one essay. One. And just because I can't finish reading some of the texts we're supposed to be essaying on, and can't assemble a thought at all at all, that shouldn't be so very much of a problem, right?

... I was hoping to start the year with a grand revelation and some essay, but I guess panic and concentrated reading will do for now...
